There's a Leek in my bowl!!

This weeks recipes were chosen by my two oldest children. My middle child wanted to make buttermilk biscuits and my oldest chose Leek and potato soup

Both recipes are very easy and straight forward. One thing I changed about the soup recipe is I didn't know exactly what Creme Fraiche is but I googled it and it said it was like a sour cream... so I used sour cream instead

Here is our Adventure!!:

We started with the Biscuits first but if you are crunched for time then I'd say you can easily do the biscuits while the soup is cooking

Adding the flour first

Baking powder

She let her youngest sister added the baking powder

Then she let her other sister do the sugar

Then mix together after I added the shortening

I had her flour the table to prep it for the fun part

Not sure what happened here but.... sure go ahead and play in the flour

I kneed the dough but I didn't get a picture of that since my hands were full. Here my middle child rolling out the dough

Shes just rollin rollin rollin

We used a cup to cut out perfect circles for each biscuit

Lined them up on the pan and popped them into the preheated oven

Then we started the soup while we waited. My oldest cut the leeks

And I cut up the potatoes... they aren't pretty but I'm ok with that

After I let the leeks saute in the pot we added in the stock

and potatoes... I added the sprigs of rosemary too

We let it cook until the veggies were tender. Then I removed the rosemary and I poured the soup into the food processor to chop up the veggies

Finally I poured it all back in and added the sour cream and parsley then mixed it up.

The biscuits were done before the soup but in no time at all I had this masterpiece

They both were very fun and very yummy recipes. The biscuits were done in a flash and the soup took awhile but didn't really seem like it.

Rating time!!!

Girls: 3/3 loved both. my oldest had two bowl and my other two polished off every drop of their soup

Mine: Extremely delicious. I had 3 bowls of soup and 4 biscuits haha. The two paired very well together. But don't just take my word for it. Try the recipes yourself. They are very simple and taste amazing

Let me know what you think about my recipes!!!

BBQ and Coleslaw

This week we decided to do two recipes. A main course and a side. This week we chose Barbeque baked chicken and Cole slaw

Here are the recipes:

And here is out adventure:

She said "this would be easier" and began grating the carrots

and I started cutting them up

Then we did the onion and the cabbage (I didn't get a pic of the cabbage)

Then I mixed together all the other ingredients that were veggies

then threw in the onions

Then we mixed the veggies in a bowl and poured in the sauce..my youngest looks so tiny

We mixed it all together and then put it in the fridge while we made the chicken

First we made the sauce. It was a mix between sweet and spicy sauce, mixed berry preserves (the girls wanted that instead of peach), and garlic powder

looks yummy

Then I coated the chicken in sauce...

more coating....

....and placed them on trays

popped the trays in the oven for 15 mins... rotated and basted them with more sauce.... then 15 more minutes

Finally I plated the finished products

So yummy looking

When all was said and done we sat together and ate a nice family meal. It was easy to make and the results were amazing

Rating time!!!

Girls: 3/3 liked the whole meal. They preferred the cole slaw over everything but they still liked the chicken

Mine: The sauce on the chicken was so good. The spicy flavor the BBQ sauce with the preserve flavor worked so good together

We are going to start trying out more and more combo meals since we are having so much fun cooking now. I hope you all enjoy seeing the process as much as we have enjoyed making the recipes. If you want to learn to cook then just do what I did. Start small and work your way up. I'm far from being a great chef but my children and I have come a long way. If you want to learn then why don't you start with my first recipe?

Curry Carrot Soup

Today's recipe was entirely the decision of my children. They dug through all the books and found this one and for once they didn't just pick by looking at the picture... and this one didn't even have a picture.

Today's recipe is Curry Carrot soup.

Here is the recipe:

As you can see, there isn't much to it and its low in everything but sodium. So I guess it's not too bad for you

Here is out adventure:

My oldest cut the onion up a different way that we watched on a youtube video to make nice little squares

I cut up the carrots with my new fancy knife

My oldest cutting up the Jalapenos

After throwing the onions and mustard seeds in to saute for a few minutes we added the jalapenos, ginger, carrots, and curry powder and let they cook for a minute to release all the yummy smells

Meanwhile my middle child put on her apron to help

She then added 3 cups of chicken stock to the pot and we brought it to a boil then let simmer for 6 mins

Next I poured it all into the food processor and chopped it all up before pouring it back in the pot and added the rest of the chicken stock

After letting it heat up again my middle child added the lime juice

Immediately after that I served with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of lime zest.... I'm not sure how it's supposed to look but I think it looks great.

As you see it wasn't very time consuming yet it still comes out looking and smelling like on of those fancy restaurant soups.

Rating time!!!

Girls: 3/3 liked it and the sour great gave it a really good taste that they enjoyed
Mine: I thought it was great. It wasn't too spicy and the flavors were nice. I had 3 bowls of it
Dad: He tried some and I'm not sure if he liked it but he finished off the pot so couldn't have been to bad.... even though he's not a fan of spicy food

Do you have a recipe you want me to try out? Or maybe you'd like to make a guest appearance on my blog? Either way... Let me know!!
